David Levy studied sociology, linguistics, and Russian language at the University of Georgia before receiving his MA degree in Nationalism Studies from Central European University in Budapest, where he wrote his thesis on the politics of nationhood in the Northern Caucasus. Before beginning his doctoral studies at Boston University, he taught sociology at American University of Central Asia. His current research focuses on the regulation of “non-traditional” religions in the Central Asian republics of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
