Rikyu 利休 (1989) 135 min. Director: Teshigahara, Hiroshi This film focuses on the late stages of life of Sen no Rikyu, the 16th Century tea ceremony master. Rikyu totally dedicated himself to asthetics and perfection, especially in relation to the art of tea. While serving to the new ruler Hideyoshi (Tsutomu Yamazaki), he found himself in a uniquely privileged position, yet he studiously avoids deep involvement in politics. However, he cannot keep his ‘isolation’ forever.
