This is your chance to warm up with School of Education friends, current students and alumni! There’s also an opportunity to form a team for Winterfest’s ice sculpting contest and take advantage of Nikki Morro, School of Education’s own Graphic Designer, who will be on-hand for creative input and help with ice design brainstorming.

The State of Africa: Report from the African Presidential Archives
& Research Center (APARC) at Boston University

Presenter: Ambassador Charles Stith
Join Ambassador Charles Stith, director of the African Presidential Archives & Research Center (APARC) and former US ambassador to Tanzania, along with a panel of U.S. Ambassadors to African states, for the debut of the annual “State of Africa” report.
Following this presentation, Ambassador Stith will go on tour throughout African nations to present this report to their leadership. The Annual African Leaders’ State of Africa Report offers a much-needed commentary on politics and policies from the perspective of the individuals shaping those trends.
Light reception with the panel presentation and a discussion will follow.

The Redstone Film Festival: BU FilmTV’s Best Student Films

This evening is sponsored by Hollywood Star, Sumner Redstone, and showcases the best 30-minute short films made by the undergraduates and graduates of the College of Communication Department of Film & Television. Fine arts at BU – an ongoing tradition continued at this year’s Winterfest. 100 Years (Version #4 Boston, 2012) provides a vital timeline of the history of performance art from 1909 Futurist Manifesto to present. 100 years presents a wealth of information that is largely unknown and is intended as an archive for students, scholars, and enthusiasts of the history of performance art.

In the mood for an art exhibit at Winterfest? This exhibition features painters Cathy Lees and Shira Avidor, both alumni of the BU School of Visual Arts painting program, as they join together to explore themes of domesticity and discomfort.
This event is organized by MoMA PS1 in collaboration with Performa; at the BU Art Gallery, the exhibition is coordinated by Director and Chief Curator Kate McNamara, Cathy Lees and Shira Avidor: Domestic Discomfort.

BU’s most popular intramural sport has come to Winterfest! Come check out student and alumni broomball teams hit the ice for an exciting day of tournament play, topped off by what’s sure to be a nail-biting student vs. alumni championship match at Agganis Arena following the Men’s Ice Hockey game.
To sign up a team of 6-10 players, choose a team captain to register. (Due to high demand, tournament registration will open at 10 a.m. on December 12, 2012 on this site.)

Team slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Exact semi-final and championship scheduling is subject to the timing of the Men’s Ice Hockey vs. Maine game, beginning at 7:30pm. Tournament schedule will be released to participating teams no later than one week before Winterfest.

Bottle of red, bottle of white — whatever mood you’re in tonight! Join TJ Douglas, graduate of BU’s Metropolitan College’s Wine Studies Program and owner of The Urban Grape, as he brings his innovative ideas about wine to BU!
Douglas is pioneering “Progressive Shelving”, a system of wine organization that focuses on the body of the wine rather than grape varietal. He will demonstrate his method of “progressive wine shelving” by using skim milk, whole milk and heavy cream as examples, and then will offer at taste of a variety of wines. Come thirsty to learn about finding the perfect bottle for you and your palate!
