Recap of Annual Junior Pinning Ceremony for the Class of 2019

On Friday, February 9th, BU’s School of Education celebrated its annual Junior Pinning Ceremony by congratulating the Class of 2019 on what they’ve accomplished leading up to this point, as well as signaling the beginning of the practicum portion of their education.

The ceremony included words from Senior Student Services Coordinator, Mackenzie Morgan, Dean ad interim Dr. Catherine O’Connor, Clinical Instructor and Faculty Director of Educator Preparation, Jennifer Bryson, and 2018 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, Cara Pekarcik. Kindergarten teachers and SED alums Laura Litcofsky (SED’89) and Jemma Pasmore (SED’91) were the ceremony’s honorary pinners.

Family members, alumni, and current faculty were all in attendance to reflect on the tradition’s significance and witness the symbolic turning of the page for many soon-to-be educators.

A member of the Junior Class, Gabrielle Saucedo, also spoke about her experience as an SED student, the challenges that await her and her peers, and the optimism she has for the teaching profession.

The tight-knit group, who will shortly be embarking on the first step of their careers, were each awarded with a pin to commemorate the end of one phase of schooling and the start of another. At the conclusion of the event, all recited SED’s Educator’s Affirmation, which is a declaration of each student’s dedication to the improvement of the field of education.
