BU-Wheelock Merger will create new College of Education & Human Development

In a letter sent to the Boston University community on October, 11, 2017, President Robert A. Brown announced that a definitive agreement has been reached with Wheelock College to merge with BU.

“The cornerstone of the merger,” President Brown wrote, “will be the combination of our School of Education with the equivalent school at Wheelock College to form the Wheelock College of Education & Human Development (WCEHD) as an academic unit within Boston University.”

He added that the combination of the schools, as well as the additional resources that BU will commit to the WCEHD, provides an opportunity “to commit with renewed energy to our long-standing efforts to promote quality early childhood and K-12 education as the foundation for the prosperity and stability of our city and the nation.”

In addition, President Brown announced that the president of Wheelock College, Dr. David Chard, will assume the role of interim dean of WCEHD beginning on June 1, 2018.
