Dean’s Welcome

David Chard New PortraitWelcome to the Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development!

The roots of this new college, Boston University School of Education and Wheelock College, were important pioneers in Boston’s growth over 100 years ago. Those roots will keep us strong and will fuel our growth as we teach, study, and serve to support the positive development of young people, their families, and communities across Boston, the region, and the world.

I owe a note of thanks to Boston University for allowing me to serve as the Dean ad interim of the new college for the next two years. In 1995, as a newly minted Ph.D., it was this same University that gave me the opportunity to launch my career with a wonderful group of colleagues who supported my teaching and research. BU was then, and is now, a place where initiative and interest in making an impact are rewarded. Many of those wonderful colleagues are still here and I am again humbled to continue my career at BU more than two decades later.

There will be many opportunities available to us at our new college. Over the next two years I envision us working toward these key goals:

  • Identifying and advancing key opportunities that will become signature areas for which we want to be primarily recognized;
  • Enhancing the professional preparation and research efforts that are underway by our faculty;
  • Ensuring that faculty, staff, students, and alumni who are part of the BU Wheelock community see our college as a place where they can achieve their goals in our various fields.

I hope that you all share in my enthusiasm for the launch of our new college. Please take some time to browse this website and gain a deeper understanding of our programs, our partners, and our mission as a college. We hope you will join us in the important work we will take on in the coming years!

Respectfully,
