and Systems Engineering 25 November 2003
The Center for Information and Systems Engineering
(CISE), established in 2001, provides a home across departments
for faculty and students interested in information and systems
engineering methodologies and their relevance to application
domains encompassing the analysis, design, and management of
complex systems. Interdisciplinary methodologies include optimization
methods, information theory, control theory, applied probability
and statistics, and simulation and modeling.
Currently, focal application domains of affiliated faculty
include automation, robotics and control; communication,
networking and information systems; production, service and
supply chain management; and signal and image processing.
There are 19 affiliated faculty from the ENG departments
of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer
Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering, CAS/Mathematics
and Statistics, and SMG/Operations and Technology Management. College of Fine Arts 27 October 2003

BU Libraries
26 August 2003
BU Libraries launches an entirely redesigned web site
today. The new site incorporates Mugar library as well as branch
libraries for African Studies, Astronomy, Communications, Educational
Resources, Management, Music, and Science and Engineering -- over
1200 web pages! The new site features a better organized and more
uniform interface, making the site easier for users to find the
information they are looking for. The new design also highlights
electronic resources and makes these and other important online
features and services more visible and accessible.
School of Education
1 August 2003
The School of Education web site relaunches today with
a new design and expanded content. The new site employs a service-oriented
approach, with clear and intuitive navigation based on the visitor's
affiliation with the School. The new site features extensive information
on programs of study for prospective students, comprehensive policies
for current students, a full listing of faculty profiles, and lots
of other information regarding the School's various centers, outreach
projects, and research initiatives.
Editorial Institute
25 July 2003
Editorial Institute's primary aims are the promotion
of critical awareness of editorial issues and practices and the
provision of training in editorial methods. The Institute offers
advanced degrees (M.A. and Ph.D.) to students who successfully prepare
either editions of important writings, with textual apparatus and
annotation, or monographs concerned with editing or textual bibliography.

Initiative
for Literacy Development
5 June 2003
The Boston University Initiative for Literacy Development
(BUILD), in collaboration with selected schools and community programs,
provides extra help to support the development of literacy skills
of elementary school children in Boston and Chelsea. Boston University
students tutor children in classrooms, after school programs, and
at one area hospital. Their contributions enhance and support the
education of children in these target programs and communities.

Upward Bound

Upward Bound at Boston University is a federally funded
college preparatory program for potential first-generation college
and low-income Boston public High School students. The program,
which is a part of Boston University's Boston Public Schools Collaborative
Office within the School of Education, serves 85 students who are
recruited from one of four target high schools or six target neighborhoods

Legal
History: The Year Books
15 April 2003
Year Books are the law reports of medieval England. They
are the principal source materials for the development of legal
doctrines, concepts, and methods from 1290 to 1535, a period during
which the common law developed into recognizable form. This database
indexes all those year book reports printed between the years 1378
and 1535 and a large number from 1268 forward. David J. Seipp, Professor
of Law at Boston University, is the compiler of this database. His
work is supported by the Ames Foundation of Harvard Law School.
