Description
As of September 1, 2004, the new Boston University Core Design has been applied to about two dozen sites comprising over 2,500 pages. It will be applied to thousands more pages in the coming months.
The Core Design brings features to the BU Web that many users have asked for and will benefit from, including:
- a consistent look, feel, layout, and behavior across major, high-traffic sites.
- improved and expanded navigation within each site.
- built-in web and directory searches on every page.
- increased cohesiveness in the University's web.
The Core Design is more than just a pretty interface, though. There are improvements under the hood, such as CSS-controlled formatting, that will reduce the time and effort required to maintain a site.
In this class, you will be introduced to the specifications, page components, design elements, and interactive functions of the Core Design. We will also review the general procedure for creating and maintaining a site using the Core Design, including the preparations necessary for implementing the Core Design on your new or existing website.
Benefits
After completing this class, you will:
- understand the information architecture and components of the Core Design.
- begin to explore how your existing site will best adopt the Core Design.
- identify the preparation work you'll need to complete before implementing the Core Design.
Prerequisites
A solid working knowledge of both Dreamweaver and Fireworks is required, including familiarity with all topics covered in the four Dreamweaver and three Fireworks classes offered by NIS.
