Backgrounds

Background images can interfere with the legibility of the text on top. This is especially true for users who have dark or low-contrast displays and for users with only grayscale monitors. Also, there is problem with the parchment background in common use on the BU Web: it displays pinkish on some systems.

For these reasons, we have abandoned the parchment background. Instead, we selected a white background with either red, black, or other dark-colored text. This strong contrast produces highly legible pages.
