Browser Independent

A University Web is visited millions of times a year by hundreds of thousands of alumni, prospective students, and current students, faculty, researchers, and staff. These visitors are using many different browsers on different computers to view these pages. It is imperative that all pages of a University Web be viewable equally well in many browsers on many platforms.

The new and revised pages of the redesign display similarly on Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX machines. They display equally well in Netscape and Internet Explorer.

Of course, it is impossible to control the color variations that occur across the millions of monitors in use. However, we have chosen colors that are browser safe or that dither well, meaning that the colors display as consistently as possible.
