Reduce Display Time (All times are for a 28.8 modem) Old page (with links): 45 seconds Old page (without links): 39 seconds New page: 23 seconds Given that the BU home page was visited more than 1.7 million times in 1997, it's important that the page display quickly. Of 51 universities surveyed in May 1998, the old BU home page performed second to last. With smaller and optimized graphics, the new home page is about half the size of the previous page and displays twice as quickly. Display times in the graph above are for a 28.8 modem. This is the typical experience for the majority of users, since 75% of the visits to the BU Web originate from computers off campus.
