Applying for Your people.bu.edu Account

Prerequisites

Before you apply for your people.bu.edu account, you must:

  1. Know your BU ID number. For individual students, staff, and faculty, this will be on your BU ID card. If you are a BU guest or student organization without a card, go to the IT Front Office at 111 Cummington Street. They will look up your number.

  2. Have a BU login name and a Kerberos password. If you do not have these, you must first create your ACS account and choose a Kerberos password.

  3. Familiarize yourself with the Computing Ethics Policy.

Notes for student organizations

  1. When applying for a student organization site, make sure the group has an active ACS account. If your group has never had an account, or if the account has not been reactivated for the current academic year, you must apply for an ACS account. Notes:

    1. On the application, use the group's ID, Kerberos login and password, and last name, not your own.

    2. The last name will be the word or words before the comma in the group's directory listing. For example, looking up "democrats" in the directory turns up "College Democrats, Boston University." In this case, the group's last name is "College Democrats."

people.bu.edu

You can apply for a people.bu.edu account now. The application form will open in a second browser window so you can simultaneously view the instructions below along side the application.

The 3-step procedure should take no longer than 5 minutes:

  1. Enter your last name (family or surname) and your BU ID number. This number is the ID number on your Terrier card.

  2. Enter your BU login name. This is typically your e-mail address without "@bu.edu."
  3. In the pop-up authentication window, enter your BU login name and Kerberos password. After you have been authenticated, click Continue.
  4. Answer the two questions posed:
    • Do you want your name to be included in the people.bu.edu index? (Default setting is no)
    • Do you want to publish or conceal your home page address in the Electronic Directory? (Default setting is conceal)

Your account will be created in approximately 15 minutes. You will receive an e-mail notice.
