Archive the Webcast

The potential audience for your webcast is limited by schedule conflicts, bandwidth, and other logistical issues. However, there are many more people who may wish to view the webcast after it has occured, at their own convenience. For this reason, it's highly recommended that you create an archive of your webcast.

When creating your archive:

  • Obtain the best source material possible. If you worked with BU Productions, get a Beta tape from them. If you used your own camera, transfer the data to the system where you'll be encoding at the highest possible quality.

  • Consider creating multiple encodings, optimized for different bandwidths. This will allow you to use a larger window size, such as 320 x 240, for audiences who will view the archive via a high-speed connection.

  • Add links to the archive from the webcast home page so that anyone who visits the page and finds they've missed the original presentation can quickly and easily access it.

  • Consider creating a SMIL presentation for the archive to enhance its content.
