 Java Settings
Blackboard Vista requires a program called Java in order to run many of its components, including the initial setup. Check that you have the most recent version of Java installed on your computer.
Java should be enabled by default in Firefox and Safari. If the Blackboard Vista Browser Check identifies an error with your Java, you can check to make sure that it is enabled by selecting your browser below.
Update your Java and enable it in your browser
 Check your Java Version
- Click the apple icon in the upper left hand corner of your screen.
- Click on "Software Update".
- Click "Check for updates now" and allow the page to load.
- Look for any updates from Java and install them. You may need to restart your computer.
- Ensure that Java is enabled in your web browser (Firefox or Safari, depending on your type of MAC computer ).
 Enable Java in Mozilla Firefox
- Launch Firefox from your dock.
- Click "Firefox" in the top menu.
- Click on the "Preferences" item in the menu.
- Click the Globe icon. For Firefox 2.0 users this is called "Content". For Firefox 1.0 users, this is called "Web Features".
- Ensure that the "Enable Java" option has been checked.

- For Firefox 2.0 users , simply close this "Preferences..." window. For Firefox 1.0 users , click OK to save your changes.
- Proceed to Configuring Popup Blockers.
 Enable Java in Safari
- Launch Safari from your dock.
- Click "Safari" in the top menu.
- Click the option "Preferences" from the list.
- Click the "Security" icon.
- Ensure that the "Enable Java" option has been checked.
- Click OK to save your changes.
- Proceed to Configuring Popup Blockers.
