 Firewalls Setup
The default settings of the built-in Mac OS X Firewall will not interfere with Blackboard Vista. Only if you have changed the settings on your Mac OS X Firewall, or have installed another firewall, will you need to follow the instructions below to allow Blackboard Vista access to your computer.
Select your type of Mac OS X or Other Firewall
Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Firewall
- Click the "System Preferences" icon from your Dock. Alternatively, you can click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen and then click "System Preferences".
- Under "Internet & Network", click on "Sharing".
- Click on the "Firewall" tab.
- Click the "New" button.
- Under "Port Name", select "Other".
- Type 443, 1935, 5038, 5997, 5998, 5190, 5191 in the "TCP Port Number(s)" text box.
- Type 5998, 5190, 5191, 33434, 16384 in the "UDP Port Number(s)" text box.
- Type Vista in the "Description" text box.
- Click the "OK" button to save your changes.
- Proceed to the Live Classroom Set Up.
Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Firewall
- Click the "System Preferences" icon from your Dock. Alternatively, you can click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen and then click "System Preferences".
- Click on the "Security" icon.
- Click the "Firewall" button. If you have previously adjusted your Mac OS X Firewall, either the "Allow only essential services" or the "Set access for specific services and applications" radio buttons will be checked. Check to see if your Firefox and/or Safari browsers are in the list of allowed applications. If they are not listed, click the "+" button.
- Clicking the "+" button will bring up a new window. Under "Places" in the first column select "Applications", then "Firefox" and/or "Safari" and then click the "Add" button. Perform this step for all applications that you wish to add to your Firewall's permission list.
- You will see the application that you selected in your Firewall's permission list.
- Close out this window when you have added all of the applications that you need.
Other Firewalls
If you are using a firewall that is not part of the native Mac OS X operating system, you may not be able to immediately access Blackboard Vista. You should look for pop-ups from your firewall asking if you want to allow Blackboard Vista access to your computer. In this case, you should click "Allow always" or the equivalent, which will keep the firewall from continually trying to block Blackboard Vista.
