Browser Check
A cookie is a small piece of information that your browser stores on your computer when you visit certain webpages. Blackboard Vista uses cookies to remember your login information as you browse through the site, so it is crucial you allow cookies from Blackboard Vista.
Javascript, which is different from Java, is a language used by web browsers that allows for easier browsing and more browsing features. Javascript is automatically enabled in Firefox and Safari. Use the instructions below in order to ensure that both cookies and Javascript are enabled in your browser.
Enable Cookies and Javascript in your browser
Enable cookies in Mozilla Firefox
- Launch Firefox from your desktop or Dock.
 - Click "Firefox" in the top menu.
- Click on the "Preferences" item on the menu.

- Click the "Privacy" icon.
- Firefox 2.0 users ensure that "Accept cookies from sites" is checked. Firefox 1.0 users, click the "Cookies" tab under the "Privacy" icon and ensure that "Allow sites to set cookies" is checked.

- Firefox 1.0 user click OK to save your changes. Firefox 2.0 users, simply close out the "Preferences" window.
- Continue on to Javascript.
Enable Javascript in Mozilla Firefox
- Launch Firefox from your desktop or Dock.

- Click "Firefox" in the top menu.
- Click on the "Preferences" item in the menu.
- Click the Globe icon. For Firefox 2.0 users, this is called "Content". For Firefox 1.0 users, this is called "Web Features".
- Ensure that "Enable JavaScript" has been checked.

- Firefox 2.0 users, simply close out the "Preferences" window. Firefox 1.0 user click OK to save your changes.
- Continue to the Firewall Set Up.
Enable cookies in Safari
- Launch Safari from your desktop or Dock.

- Click "Safari" in the top menu.
- Click on the "Preferences" item on the menu.
- Click the "Security" icon.

- In the "Accept Cookies" section, ensure that the radio button is set to "Only from sites you navigate to".
- Close this window.
- Continue on to Javascript.
Enable Javascript in Safari
- Launch Safari from your desktop or Dock.

- Click "Safari" in the top menu.
- Click on the "Preferences" item in the menu.
- Click the "Security" icon.

- In the "Web Content" section, ensure that "Enable Javascript" has been checked.
- Close this window.
- Continue to the Firewall Set Up.
