Publicize your site

Like any other product you want people to pay attention to, the more you publicize your site the more likely you are to reach people who might be interested in it. The following are some suggestions for including your URL:

  • Any document or printed item
  • Newsletters
  • Letterhead and envelopes
  • Business cards
  • Event brochures
  • T-shirts, caps, and mugs

Another means of publicizing your site is to submit it to BU Features or What's New when appropriate.

BU Features are included on the BU home page, and generally are used to publicize timely content or current events such as conferences, class registration, etc.

What's New is specifically intended to highlight additions or important changes to departmental or faculty web sites that deserve wide exposure, such as a new site design.

You can also send press releases or other news announcement to alert potential visitors of new or updated content on your site.

Finally, consider that many search engines now have sponsored link options, in which you pay for more visibility for your URL (note that this is not a higher ranking).
