Importing your key pair onto another computer
If you want multiple members of your department to be able to read encrypted
e-mail sent to a shared e-mail address (such as a departmental or administrative,
or other group e-mail address), you will need to install your key pair onto
their computers.
-
Install PGP onto each computer
that will use the key pair.
- Export a backup of your public key
and private key, if you have not already done so, and save
it to removable media, such as a floppy disk, zip disk, or cd.
Note that since your private key must remain private, you should not transmit
it via insecure means. Do not upload the private key to a web server, or
send it as an e-mail attachment.
- On the computer that you are importing the PGP keys onto, insert
the disk with your backup of your public key and private key.
- On the computer that you are importing the PGP keys onto, launch the
PGPkeys software. Go to the Keys menu, and select
Import.

- You will be presented with a Browse dialog box. Browse to the disk that
you inserted into the computer.
Select your backup file, and choose
Open. Note
that the backup file you need to select should have both your public key
and
your
private
key
in it. It is the file that you would have saved in the following format:
your-department-email-login-key-pair.asc
- You will be presented with the following dialog box:

If your key is not already highlighted, select it, and choose Import.
-
You may be presented with the following alert:

Click OK.
-
Your keys should now be successfully imported. They will appear in the
PGPkeys window.
