What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a convenient way to get the latest online news and information that interests you, without having to browse many different websites. You choose the content you like and it is delivered to you. You read news delivered via RSS in a news aggregator or other RSS-enabled application.

Content streams delivered by RSS are called "RSS feeds" or "news feeds." News feeds most often contain news or other content that changes frequently, such as daily entries on a blog.

A news feed is an XML document containing a headline, a summary, and a link to the website. News feeds also may include information such as the author's name and the date and time the content was published. Some news feeds include the full text of the content, while other feeds provide only a summary of the content and link to the full story on the original websites.

If you are a web publisher, you can publish news feeds on your site, and other web publishers can include those feeds on their own sites. Your site's visitors can then read the collection of feeds in their news aggregators.
