Guidelines for Selecting Keywords
- For sites on www.bu.edu, you should view
the Search Words section of your Site Statistics report to find which keywords
people most frequently use to reach your site. Note: when a user searches
for a phrase, such as summer school, the two words are listed separately
in the report.
- You should select keywords and phrases that are specific and relevant to
your site. Avoid general words, such as class, school, department, or program,
unless used as part of a phrase.
- Use lowercase characters only, as keywords and phrases are not case-sensitive.
- For Quick Link keywords and phrases, a match occurs when a user types a
keyword or phrase exactly as defined in a Quick Link. For example, a search
on internship will not match a Quick Link of internships. So
include common variations on a word, if that is important.
- You can select up to five keywords or phrases.
- For each keyword or phrase you select, conduct
a search to find out how your site currently ranks in search results.
