Ready Your Site

The first step in this process is to ready your site for the incorporation of your news releases and to provide a model for the display of news on your site.

  1. Create a directory. In order for the News Release System to use your design, you will need to host template files that control how the news release pages look in your site. Create a directory in the top level directory of your site called "newstemplates".
  2. Create a basic design template. You will also need to make an HTML page with the basic design you want the individual articles or lists of news releases appear. If you use Macromedia Dreamweaver, you should use the basic template for a page in your site. Aside from the header, the navigational bar, or whatever other elements are part of your design, fill in a title (ex. "News Releases" or "News at Your Site") and possibly a heading for the page (ex. "News Releases" or "News at Your School").

This file will be used by a News Release System Administrator at NIS to construct the set of templates that the News Release System uses to display briefs with your design. The title and heading should reflect this. What the administrator will do is add the code necessary for the Research Briefs System to function of your site. All you need to provide in this HTML file is the shell of design in which content will be displayed.

    Name this file "design.html".

Copy the "design.html" file into the "newstemplates" directory.

Proceed to the Request Templates form and fill out a request for the set of template files the News Release System needs to display news releases with your design.
