Introduction
Boston University has a News & Events site that serves recent news releases online. In the past this was done as separate HTML pages, each presenting a separate article. If a school or college on the BU Web wanted to serve new releases relevant to their site, they would have to create links to these articles by hand. Moreover, if they wanted to incorporate the look and feel of their site's design, the web designers of the school or college would have to cut the text of the article they want to serve, and make their own HTML page for the same article on their own site. This, however, was a very labor-intensive process and did not allow for any sort of automatic linking, displaying, and serving of new releases as they became available.
Now the BU Web has a News Release System, that allows sites like News & Events or any other site on the BU Web to serve news releases from a common database. This allows web designers at BU to embed constantly updating lists of new news releases and select specific sets of news content they wish to display, whether it be by year, or by school, category, or many other permutations. Moreover, web designers of schools and colleges can not only select only the news relevant to their school, but also serve this information with their site's design.
This set of Learning pages are designed to help you, the web designer of a school, college, or organization at BU implement the News Release System for your site, to provide relevant and up-to-date news content to the visitors of your website.
