Macromedia Exchange support means that users can download user-created commands from the Exchange. The commands appear in the Fireworks MX workspace as easy-to-use panels or dialog boxes. Fireworks MX allows for many extensions that make complicated tasks easier.

The Slice table layout control makes creation of sliced tables easy. Now you can define and fine-tune slice table layouts just by dragging slice guides. Bordering slices are automatically resized, superfluous slices deleted, or new slices added as needed.

When you are working on existing website projects and the only available files are the posted HTML pages, you will appreciate the Reconstitute Tables feature. It builds a new Fireworks PNG source file when you point to any HTML file containing tables with image slices. Macromedia Fireworks and Dreamweaver behaviors such as image rollovers and pop-up menus are imported and attached to the appropriate slices. All images imported are bitmaps, of course.

Photoshop enthusiasts will like the new Photoshop round-trip feature that preserves Photoshop 6 or 7 files with editable text intact.

The Quick Export button also allows round-trip HTML with Microsoft Front-page. Launch and Edit tables work on the original file in Fireworks; the tables are updated in FrontPage and preserver code changes that have been made in FrontPage.
