Creating Subforums

Creating subforums to your forum should be done with care. Most moderators fail to realize that each subforum fragments the discussion on your forum. If there is little discussion already, creating subforums splits that little discussion into even smaller pieces.

What we advise is to wait until you have healthy discussion in your forum before creating subforums. This allows you to create appropriate subforums. Since you've already established healthy discussion on your form, it's much easier to tell how to categorize.

Creating a subforum is easy. After logging in, browse to the Topic Index of your forum. At the bottom of the page there is a list of things you can do in this forum:

List of options moderator can do.
The last sentence contains the link to create a new subforum.

The "create subforums" link will take you to a form to create a subforum of the forum you are currently browsing. The questions in this form are identical to the questions asked when creating a new forum.

Once you've filled out this form, your subforum will be created. It takes no manual steps on the part of NIS/Webcentral; as soon as your form is submitted your subforum is created.

Subforums are seen at the top of a forum's Topic Index. They are displayed before any topics in your forum. They function identically to any other forum, except they will appear beneath your forum.
