Settings

After saving your Flash movie, select File | Publish Settings from the menu.

Click the Formats tab.

In the Publish Settings dialog, you'll see a list of formats and filenames. By default, Flash is set to publish a .swf (embedded Flash movie) file and a .html (web page) file. The .html file will contain the code needed to display the Flash movie correctly in a browser.

You may want to create additional files: in particular, you may want a standalone file that doesn't require a browser for display. Select Windows Projector and/or Macintosh Projector to create those files. Flash can also create animated .gif version of the movie or a .jpg file of an individual frame of the movie.

The default filenames listed are based on the filename and location of your .fla file. By unchecking the Use default filenames box you can specify alternate location and/or filename for saving your movies. The alternate location can use absolute (such as c:\) or relative (such as ..\) paths. This is very convenient if you prefer to keep your source files separate from your completed output.

Click the Flash tab.

By default, the movie publishes for the Flash 6 Player. The publishing process also applies movie and JPEG compression.

As you develop more complex movies, you may want to also check the Generate size report and Debugging Permitted options. These are helpful in optimizing and troubleshooting large and complex Flash applications.

Click OK to save the publishing settings, then select File | Publish from the menu to publish your file.
