Cropping images

When you crop images there will be always a change in the size of the canvas. The canvas is automatically reduced to the size of the cropped area. The image itself remains unchanged, there is no need for adding or removing pixels in the affected area. Only pixels outside the selection will be discarded.

Select the crop tool from the toolbar to crop images.

Whenever you select a cropping area a special cropping marquee will be displayed.

This marquee can be changed in size by pulling the handles on the border. When you extend the cropping area beyond the current canvas size the additional area is added to the document.

You can also use one of the regular marquee tools to draw a region and then activate the cropping tool.

Of course, no matter what tool you used to create the selection, images can only be cropped in a rectangular shape.

HANDS ON:
During this part of the tutorial, resize the image and experiment with the cropping tool.
