Creating floating pixel selections
After selecting pixels we can manipulate them in many ways. As
long as one of the marquee or lasso tools is selected we can move
the marquee around. In order to move the selected pixels we need
to use to pointer tool or the Control key to turn the marquee into
a floating pixel selection.
When
the selection is movable the scissors cursor appears and you can
drag and drop the selection. Please remember that the floating selection
will be flattened into the bitmap when you drop it and deselect.
Effects of pixel selection
When
you select pixels and move them with the pointer tool you produce
a blank spot on the canvas. The spot will show the canvas color
or the checkerboard of the transparent canvas.
You can use the ALT key (Macintosh:
Option) while the scissors cursor
is visible to create a copy of the selection and drag it from the
spot where the original is. You can also copy or cut the selected
areas.
When an area is selected the bitmap drawing tools only affect the
selected area. The marquee masks the unselected area and protects
it from changes.
