2 hours ( 65 minutes lecture, 50 minutes hands-on exercises, 5-minute break)

Manipulating images in bitmap mode (8 min)

  1. Fireworks bitmap mode
  2. Sizing and resampling considerations

Hands-on exercise (2 min)

  1. Download and save the images we will work with.

Selecting pixels (11 min)

  1. Marquee tools
  2. Creating floating pixel selections

Hands-on exercise (6 min)

  1. Open up the image of the flower (Vinca.jpg).
  2. Experiment with the different selection methods.

Sizing and Cropping images (8 min)

  1. Sizing images
  2. Cropping

Hands-on exercise (7 min)

  1. Resize the flower image.
  2. Experiment with the cropping tool.

Retouching Images (12 min)

  1. Drawing in bitmap mode
  2. Cloning, erasing, color replacing
  3. Stacking considerations

Hands-on exercise (10 min)

  1. Play around with the various tools.
  2. Use the rubber stamp tool to clean up some imperfections in the image of the flower.

Applying Effects (12 min)

  1. Fireworks Live Effects vs. Extras
  2. Color/Tone/Brightness
  3. Hue/Saturation
  4. Using plug-ins

Hands-on exercise (10 min)

  1. Open the image of the butterfly.
  2. Experiment with the different filters and live effects that Fireworks offers.

Masking (6 min)

  1. Creating a mask
  2. Masking with text

Hands-on exercise (15 min)

  1. Open the image of Thomas Edison.
  2. Apply a vector mask.
  3. Apply a bitmap mask.
  4. Create a text mask.

Scanning/Digital photography tips (8 min)

  1. Scanning images into Fireworks
  2. Taking digital picture
