Frames
Now it's getting really interesting. We don't only
have layers, but we also have frames. Here's the difference:
Layers organize objects within the same frame. Whenever
you look at the layer panel it only displays the objects in the
current frame. By default every Fireworks document has 1 frame.

Frames are important in creating changing images on
Web pages. Rollover effects are created through replacement of images
via Javascript. We will talk about these behaviors in another tutorial.
For now we just need to know that frames can be used to create the
different images for these rollovers.
To demonstrate this principle let's look at the pictures
below:
In frame 1 of the Fireworks document there is our
sad friend. We copy him to frame 2 and make him happy. When you
draw a slice over the area and assign the simple rollover behavior
you can influence his mood by pointing at his face.
Another use of frames is to create animation. Animated
GIF files play a sequence of images like frames in a movie. The
creation of animated GIF images, however, lies beyond the scope
of this tutorial.
HANDS ON:
Create new layers, rename layers, change visibility, move objects
between layers, delete layers. |
