The toolbar

The Fireworks toolbar is the place from which you pick all the editing tools you need for the manipulation of the objects and images. Some of the tools have multiple options. All tools are ordered in sections according to their use of the type of object they apply.Toolbar normal view

You can see that some of the tools have little black triangles in the lower right corner. These are the tools that have multiple choices and only the currently selected choice is visible. When you click on the triangle, a fly-out menu appears.

Selecting a tools from a groupAll tools within the tool group are listed and a short description of the tool is displayed next to the icon.
You can use the keyboard to cycle through the tools, the letter displayed behind the tool name indicates which key of you keyboard makes the tool selection cycle. The currently selected tool has a checkmark in front of it.

There are six tool groups. The select group allows for selecting objects on the canvas and contains the selection pointer, sub-selection pointer, transformation selector and the crop tool.

The bitmap tool group includes selection tools that only apply to bitmap objects, bitmap drawing and manipulation tools such as the color picker, ereaser, and fill bucket.

The vector tool group contains all tools needed to create and modify vector objects. It is clearly visible that text objects are vector objects since the text tool has its home within the vector tool group.

Colors and fills can be manipulated through the color tool group and the display mode of the document can be chosen from the view tool group. Your choices are normal view (default), full screen with menu bars, or full screen without manu bars. The magnifier tool zooms to your selection when you draw a magnification window on the canvas.
