Other helpful features
Fireworks offers some features that help the
positioning of objects. One of these features is guides. A guide
is a line that is used to place objects.
You can create guides by dragging them from the rulers. You
drop the guide at any point on the canvas. If you double click
on the guide its position will be displayed in a box and you
can adjust it exactly. |
 |
Guides can be set to have a "magnetic" effect
on objects so that when you move an object it will automatically
snap to the guide. This makes positioning a "snap".
The rulers in the above screen shot also give information
about the dimension of the canvas and relative location of objects
or the cursor.
If you ever make a mistake -- and it said to happen
sometimes -- you can undo all actions by using the history panel.
It works almost the same way as in Dreamweaver.
 |
As long as the document
has not been closed, all steps in the history panel can be
undone.
All you need to do is to move the slider back as far as you
need to. You can observe the changes right on the canvas.
The maximum number of undo steps is by default set to 20,
but you can set any number you wish. This, however, might
have a negative impact on the performance, since more memory
is allocated to the undo function.
Advanced users can also use the history panel to replay steps
they performed and apply them to another object. This is a
convenient way of using somthing like a "temporary macro".
|
Fireworks also offers a powerful find and replace feature. Since all
information for vector objects is basically text you can search not
just for "words" to be replaced, but also colors, fonts
etc. At this point we cannot discuss the use of the find and replace
functions in more detail, so, let's move on to creating our first
Fireworks document. |
