Free-hand drawing

Of course it is possible to create odd shapes by using the drawing tools, such as the pencil or the pen. These tools allow you to create a path outline.

It is important to be aware that a path needs to be closed in order to assign it a fill. A solid object will only be created when the starting point is connected to the end point of the same path.

Vector Path ToolThe brush tool creates a vector path. It is on the canvas as long as the mouse button is pressed. The tool options determine how the outline of the path is rendered on the canvas.

When using a graphic tablet that has a pressure-sensitive stylus, this tool can behave like a bamboo brush, crayon, or whatever you select from the tools options.

PenThe pen tool draws straight lines or Bezier curves. When you click the pen tool (1) on the canvas a vertex is created. By default the vertex is a corner. If you drag the pen tool (2) before relasing the mouse it will be a curve point. You can adjust the curve handles later.

Pen tool

The pen tool also behaves like the vector path tool and indicates when you are close enough to the start point to close the path. Again, an open path will only show the stroke attributes. If you want to have a solid object you should close the path.

Vertices on a path can be edited with the pen tool and moved with the subselection pointer.
