Creating Templates

Let's look at two ways to create a template in Dreamweaver:

From an existing document: Open an existing document, and under the File menu, choose Save As Template. Select the correct site definition for you template, give it a name, and click Save. Now you have a template based on the page you opened.

The New Document dialogue box is significantly expanded from previous versions of DreamweaverFrom a new/blank page: From the File menu, choose New. The "New Document" dialogue box has been greatly enchanced in Dreamweaver MX. You now have several options under the "General" tab, including an HTML Template, which is what you would choose here to begin a new page template.

The name you give to your template will be associated with all the pages based on that template on your site. You can determine the template name that a page is based on by opening the page in Dreamweaver and looking at the yellow-highlighted label in the top right corner of the document window.
