Strategies for Sites with
Multiple Content Providers

When you have more than one developer providing content for a site, it is always best to use the version of the site on the Web server as the central/primary copy of your Web site.

To ensure you have the most recent version of a file before making editing changes, either get the file from the server before editing or synchronize a file, folder, or the entire site before editing.

Some departments with multiple developers may wish to set up a directory on a network drive within your local area computer network. This would allow developers to have access to a central directory with a copy of the website. Some departments have taken this idea a step further and have a copy of the site on a shared local network drive but only the site administrator has access to upload files onto the Web server. This allows multiple developers to work on content but the site administrator still has final say (and final responsiblity) for uploading new or edited pages to the website.
