Editing a Library Item

Library items are stored in Dreamweaver as a snippet of HTML. If you want to change a library item, it is very much like opening and editing a Web page, but in this case, you are simply editing the library item itself.

Highlight your library item in your assets palette and select Edit from the fly-out menu. This will open your library item in a new Dreamweaver window. From there, you can make any editing changes you need using all the tools you have available in Dreamweaver.

When you are finished editing, select Save under the file menu. Dreamweaver will then save the new version of the library item, and will also look through your Web site to see where you used the library item. Dreamweaver will then ask you if you want to update the documents in your local folder with the new library item.

If you choose not to update your other files, you can always go back and make these changes later by using the Modify > Library > Update Current Page (or Update Pages).

To rename a library item, simply highlight the item in the library palette and enter a new name. Dreamweaver will ask you if you want to update files that use this item.

To delete a library item, simply highlight the library item in the library palette and press the Delete key or click the trash can icon. Deleting a library item removes the item from the library but does not change the content of any of your documents. NOTE: Dreamweaver will warn you if you attempt to delete a Library Item that is in use on your site.
