Moving files

Always move files and folders on your website from within the Site Management window. If you use Windows Explorer or the Mac Finder to move files, Dreamweaver will lose track of your links and this will cause problems on your site.

From within the Site Management window on your Local Folder, you simply select a file or folder and drag-and-drop it into its new location. Dreamweaver will update all the links so they work correctly from the file's new location.

If you need to do a lot of file management (move several files, move folders, etc.), it is recommended that you recreate your site cache first. Remember that the site cache is a little database that is set aside in memory to keep track of all your links while Dreamweaver is operating. Recreating the site cache makes sure your cache is completely up to date.

Recreating the site cache takes as little as a few seconds for smaller sites up to several minutes for very large sites.
