Creating New Files and Folders

There are several ways to create a new file or folder in Dreamweaver:

  1. From your pulldown menus, select File > New File (or File > New Folder)
This opens a blank document that is not yet saved on your website. It is good practice to save your new document soon after creating it. This way, Dreamweaver will know the name and location of the file for internal link management.

  2. From the site management window, right-click on your local folder and select New File or New Folder from the pop-up menu. You can create a new file or folder inside any existing folder on your site by right-clicking on the folder name and then selecting New File or New Folder.

  3. After you have templates set up, you can start a new file with graphics, links, and navigation menus already in place a ready to go. However, in Dreamweaver MX, you do not create a new file from a template from the site window. Instead, choose File > New File from the main menu, and select the Templates tab to view available templates.
