Hands-on exercise: Touring the Dreamweaver interface (5 minutes)

  1. Start Dreamweaver.
  2. Open or identify the various interface elements, menus, and tools.

  2. Customizing Dreamweaver: General preference options
  3. Using keyboard shortcuts

Hands-on exercise: Customizing Dreamweaver (5 minutes)

  1. Set code format to lowercase for tags and attributes.
  2. Disable deferred updating of tables.
  3. Set Dreamweaver to save web pages using .html extension.
  4. Set default software for editing .html, .htaccess, .template, and .message files.

  1. Define a local site.
  2. Establish a connection to the practice area on a web server.
  3. Download a copy of the practice site.

  1. Adding images and image attributes
  2. Creating image maps

Formatting basics: Tables for page layouts (15 minutes)

  1. Creating tables using layout view
  2. Editing tables with the Properties palette

Hands-on exercise: Designing basic page layouts - tables and images (20 minutes)

  1. Create a table for a page layout using layout view.
  2. Merge cells in the table.
  3. Add graphics to the table cells.
  4. Add links to the navigation graphics.
  5. Add an image map to the logo graphic.

Hands-on exercise: Synchronizing and reviewing a site (10 minutes)

  1. Close and save files.
  2. Upload changed files.
  3. Review published work online using a web browser.
