Creating new pages

With Macromedia Contribute you can add pages to your website. You can create a copy of a page, create a blank page, create a copy of a sample page, or create a page based on a Dreamweaver template. After you create a page, you can change its properties, or even add keywords or a description for the page. Contribute makes the new page or document live on your website when you publish it.

You can create or copy any of the following types of pages:

  • Copy of Current Page
  • Blank Web Page
  • Sample Web Page
  • Template

Note: If your site administrator has restricted the types of new pages you can create, you may not see all of these options when you create or copy a page.

Copying a page on your website

One of the most useful ways to create a new page on your site is to start with a copy of an existing page. This method works whether the original page is based on a Dreamweaver template or not.

Simply browse to the page in Contribute, access the File pulldown menu and select the New Page option. From the list of new pages, select Copy of Current Page.

There are a few important restrictions to copying a page on your site:

  1. You must be viewing a published page; you cannot create a copy of a page that is a draft in the Contribute editor.
  2. You cannot copy a page from one website to another website.
  3. You must create the new page first, then link it later. You cannot create the copy and add a link to it at the same time.

Creating a page based on a template

You can create a new page based on a template. Page templates will be assigned by your site administrator and will usually have the same look and feel as other pages on your current web site. The number and type of templates you have access to will depend on permissions set by your site administrator.

In Contribute there are two types of templates:

  • A template created in Macromedia Dreamweaver. A Dreamweaver template is a template that a designer creates for you with editable and locked regions.
  • A template that the website administrator for your website designated as a template. Your site administrator can designate any page on your website as a template.

Creating a blank web page

You can create a blank web page. Blank pages have a very limited use. For instance, you might have a very large spreadsheet that you publish as an HTML table that is much too large for your site's templates. Blank pages should be used sparingly, since they do not have standard navigation menus and other links your visitors expect to see on all your pages.

There are two ways to add a blank page to your website:

  • Create a new page and a link to the page at the same time. (Recommended)
  • Create the new page first, then link it later.

Copying a sample web page

Contribute comes with built-in sample web pages that you can copy and use on your website. Sample pages should be used sparingly, since they do not have standard navigation menus and other links your visitors expect to see on all your pages.

There are two ways you can copy a sample web page to your website:

  • Create a new page and a link to the page at the same time. (Recommended)
  • Create the new page first, then link it later.
