Managing new pages permissions

The New Pages category in the Permission Group dialog box lets you specify whether users can create new, blank pages, create duplicate pages by copying the current page, as well as determine what Dreamweaver templates users are able to see and use.

When specifying the new page types that users are able to create, carefully consider the look and feel of the web site. In many cases, it will be best to constrain users to use either copies of existing pages, or, if they are available, to use only Dreamweaver templates.

permissions for new pages

Contribute lets you control the types of new pages that users can create, and lets you specify templates that users can use to create new pages. The new page types include the following:

  • Create a blank page lets users create blank pages.
  • Use built-in sample pages lets users create and modify copies of preexisting sample pages that are provided with Contribute.
  • Create a new page by copying any page on the web site lets users create and modify a copy of an existing page on the web site.
  • Create a new page by copying a page from this list lets users create pages based on a set of pages that you specify.
  • Use Dreamweaver templates lets users create pages based on templates created in Dreamweaver, usually by a site developer, that have defined editable and non-editable regions. Such pages ensure a consistent look and feel throughout a web site, and only allow users to update specific areas of text and images.

Specifying Dreamweaver templates for contributors to use

Contribute lets you choose what Dreamweaver templates users are able to see and use to create new web pages. You can choose to let users see all of the available templates, or only templates that you choose for users of that group.

To specify the Dreamweaver templates users can see and use:

  1. In the New Pages category of the Permission Group dialog box, select Use Dreamweaver templates and select one of the following:
    • Show users all templates allows users to see all of the available templates.
    • Only show users these templates displays only certain templates to users. If you select this option, you can select templates and use the Hide and Show buttons to move the templates between the Hidden templates list and the Only show users these templates list.
  2. Repeat until all of the templates you want to display to users of the group are visible in the Only show users these templates list.
