What is Contribute?

Contribute is a new program that allows users to quickly and easily make updates to web pages. Contribute can be used to make new pages or to edit existing pages, and the content providers do not need any previous experience with web page software or HTML.

The user or administrator establishes connections to the server for content providers and maintains the permission groups. A connection key can be easily generated to invite new content providers, and they simply double-click the connection key and supply a password/phrase to establish their connection. No technical expertise is required at all by your content providers.

Contribute is both a browser and an editor. You can surf the web just as you can with any other browser. When you are on the page to be edited, click the Edit Page button. Contribute will switch from browse mode to edit mode, offering a toolbar with common text and table editing features, including options to make links and insert images. When your edits are done, click the Publish button and the page will be uploaded to the server. Contribute will switch back to browser mode and display your new page, live on the web! It's that easy.

Contribute is limited to adding and editing text, tables and images. You can also insert Flash files. It's designed for making direct updates to pages. This differs from Dreamweaver MX, which has more functionality than Contribute. Contribute and Dreamweaver MX are designed to work together in a few ways. You can use Dreamweaver Templates within Contribute to quickly make new pages that are already set up, and the Contribute user can add the necessary content to the page.

Contribute also recognize CSS styles added in Dreamweaver MX and allow users to apply custom classes. Dreamweaver MX can also be used to administer Contribute web sites by installation of a free updater file.
