Creating a key

Start the Connection Key Export Wizard by accessing the admin panel and clicking the button to Create A Key.

Connection Key wizard

The Export Connection Wizard lets you send your current connection information, or customize your existing settings as needed for use by other permission groups. Select the radio button appropriate to the connection settings you want to send to users.

For most BU web content providers, you will use the current connection settings as indicated on the screen capture above. DO NOT include your FTP login and password under any circumstances:

  • After a key is opened in Contribute, it could be sent by email again. This can make your password vulnerable to being "sniffed" in transit.
  • Sharing your Kerberos password is a violation of the Computing Ethics Policy since doing so would give another person access to your most sensitive University records.

If you choose to customize your connection settings, the next panel of the Export Connection Wizard lets you select the method users will use to connect to the web site. Please see the Contribute help files for further information.

Note: If your content providers have never uploaded files to your site in the past, you must also request that we add server access for them. Use the form on WebCentral. Then your new content provider will simply use his/her own BU login and password when establishing the Contribute site definition.
