Guidelines for Permission Groups

For small web teams, administrators should consider creating a permission group for each content provider. This situation will work ideally if you have no more than 6 to 8 content providers. This is a small enough number of content providers to remain manageable, and this option permits you the most flexibility to customize permissions that are closely matched with the skill sets of your content providers.

For medium and large web teams (8-10 content providers or more), analyze your content providers and match areas of content specialization. Create permission groups based on common areas of specialization. Content providers that share areas of specialization will be working on pages in the same folder(s) on the server. Since folder access is determined by permission groups, content providers with similar specializations can share a set of site permissions by using the same group.

Beyond these very broadly-defined guidelines, each individual site is unique and the number of permission groups required may vary dramatically from site to site. Site administrators should request a consultation to analyze your site structure and determine the best plan for maintaining your permission groups.
