Enabling Contribute Compatibility in Dreamweaver

If you are a site administrator who uses Dreamweaver to design, update, and manage your site, you can also use Dreamweaver to connect to and manage Contribute sites and content providers. To use Dreamweaver MX to perform Contribute web site-administrations tasks, you must install a Dreamweaver MX updater and then enable Contribute compatibility features in Dreamweaver.

To determine whether or not you already have the Dreamweaver MX Update for Contribute installed, follow these steps:

  1. Launch Dreamweaver MX.
  2. Open the About Dreamweaver window:
    • In Windows, choose Help > About Dreamweaver.
    • On Macintosh OS X, choose About Macromedia Dreamweaver MX from the Dreamweaver menu.
    • On Macintosh OS 9.x, choose About Macromedia Dreamweaver MX from the Apple menu.
    • The copyright notice and credits will begin to scroll.
  3. Click in the About Dreamweaver window once, to bypass the scrolling credits.
  4. Note the version number at the bottom left of the window.
  5. Click the About Dreamweaver window again to close it.
    • If the version number is 6.1, then you already have the updated version of Dreamweaver. You do not need to run the updater.

Dreamweaver does not require you to treat a web site as a Contribute web site; if you choose not to enable Contribute compatibility, you can still use Dreamweaver with the web site.

When you have determined to use Dreamweaver MX to manage Contribute sites and you have ensured that the Dreamweaver MX Updater for Contribute has been installed, go to your site definitions, highlight the name of your site, click edit and select the Advanced tab. You will now see an option for "Contribute" listed up the categories.

To enable Contribute compatibility with Dreamweaver MX, simple turn on the check box. If you haven't enabled Check In/Check Out and Design Note features, you will be prompted to do so at this time. These are required for proper Dreamweaver MX and Contribute compatibility.
