Add Tracks

A "track" is an audio or video component of a QuickTime movie. QuickTime movies can include multiple tracks.

  1. Select File | Open Movie to open the file containing the content of the new track (this could be an .avi, .wav, .mp3, .mov, etc.file) in your QuickTime player.

  2. Then choose Edit | Select All and then Edit | Copy to copy the contents of the new track. You're now finished with this player, so close it or move it out of your way on the desktop.

  3. Open a second player by selecting File | New Player. In this new player, select File | Open Movie to open the movie to which you want to add the new track. Move the position indicator to the point in this movie where you want the new track to start.

  4. Choose Edit | Select All

  5. Hold the Ctrl and Alt keys and select Edit | Add.

Note that the Add command appears in the menu instead of Paste--this indicates that you will be merging the new track into the same time frame as the original movie, instead of pasting it in as additional material. If the new track is longer than the original track, or is added in at a point where it is longer than the remaining time in the original track, the overall duration of the resulting clip will increase.
