Add Scaled Tracks

A scaled track is one that has been streched or squeezed to fit a specific time frame. In other words, you can specify the duration of the added track by selecting a portion of the movie with the start time and duration that you'd like the added data to have.

If the time between the start and end points is greater than the actual length of the track, it will be "stretched" to fit that time frame. For example, motion will be slowed down, and the pitch of the audio will be lowered.

If the time between the start and end points is less than the actual length of the track, it will be "squeezed" to fit that time frame. For example, motion will be speeded up, the pitch of the audio track will be higher.

  1. In the player of the movie to which you want to add the scaled track, use the selection indicators to indicate the start and end points of the added track.

  2. Select File | Open Movie to open the file containing the content of the new track (this could be an .avi, .wav, .mp3, .mov, etc.file) in your QuickTime player.

  3. Then choose Edit | Select All and then Edit | Copy to copy the contents of the new track. You're now finished with this player, so close it or move it out of your way on the desktop.

  4. Open a second player by selecting File | New Player. In this new player, select File | Open Movie to open the movie to which you want to add the new track. Move the position indicator to the point in this movie where you want the new track to start.
  5. Select Edit | Select All from the menu.
  6. Select Edit | Add Scaled from the menu.

The new track is now inserted into the original movie.
