RACING
CAMP
Female rowers and coxswains,
ages 15-18 years, are invited to attend. Our focus will be on
the elements of competitive racing. Rowers who are committed to
working hard, eager to improve their technical and racing skills
and who have maintained a good level of fitness, will gain the
most from this experience. Coxswains who are interested in building
leadership and confidence skills, as well as learning to steer
the Head of the Charles course, are encourage to attend.
Practices will be divided
in to one technique and one racing session per day. Guest rowers,
coxswains and speakers will share their knowledge on and off the
water. Clinics will be held through out the clinic discussing such
areas as ergometer training, core strengthening, NCAA rules and
other rowing related topics.
BEGINNER'S
CAMP
High school girls ages
15-18 years, with no rowing experience are also invited to attend
the camp. This is an excellent opportunity for an athlete looking
for a new sport. Our focus will be on teaching basic sweep and sculling
skills. The Beginner's Camp will run simultaneously to the Racing
Camp, sharing the same facilities, housing and lectures, but with
a separate staff and objectives. The beginners will participate
in a fun race at the end of camp.
LOCATION
The camp
will be held at the DeWolfe Boathouse at Boston University. One
of the most magnificent boathouses in Boston, it was completed in
October 1999. The state-of-the-art facility and equipment will be
available for use during the camps. The boathouse is located directly
across the river from the main campus.
Staff
Our experienced staff of coaches will be lead by Holly
Hatton, Head Coach of Boston University Women's Crew. Holly
has 26-years of Division I college coaching experience. During that
time she was also a coach on five National Teams and two Olympic
Teams. In 1999 and 2006 she was named the Northeast Regional College
Coach of the Year. Competitively, Holly coxed on three National
Teams and was the coxswain of the 1980 Olympic Eight.
Boston University assistant
coaches, plus other prominent college coaches will be part of our
staff. The coach to crew ration will be 1 to 1. Varsity rowers and
coxswains will be included in our staff both as dorm councilors
and technical assistants. They will be also be available to share
their racing insight and experiences.
TRAVEL,
HOUSING AND MEALS
Participants
will be housed at a university dormitory located within walking
distance of the boathouse. Breakfast will be served at the boathouse.
Lunch and dinner will be eaten at the dorm's dinning hall.
The camp
staff will provide free airport transportation from the airport
1pm to 4pm on Sunday. If your travel plans have you arriving outside
those blocks of time OR your flight is delayed and you arrive at
the airport outside the time blocks, please plan to take a taxi
to the dormitory at Babcock St.. It will cost approximately $25-$30.
At the end of the camp, the staff will provide free transportation
to the airport for all campers.
Check in for campers
at dormitory on Sunday, July 20th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm.
(If you are unable to arrive between these times, please let us
know and we will make other arrangements for you.) At this time,
overnight campers will be assigned to their rooms and will meet
their camp counselors.
Check in for Day campers
will be on Monday, July 21st at 7:00 am
SWIM
TEST
Each participant
will be required to pass a 100-yard swim test conducted on the first
day of camp.
DAILY
SCHEDULE
The camp will be begin on Monday at 7:30am. Out-of-town campers
should plan to arrive on Sunday, July 20. The dormitory will be
available for check-in between 3:00 and 6:00pm. Please read the
