Mason McAllister — Newsroom Manager

Mason McAllister has been Newsroom Manager since Fall 2004.

In January 2004 he took an early retirement offer from The Washington Post, where he worked as an editor for 34 years. At The Post he was chief of the Style copy desk before joining Metro to work on an effort to provide zoned local news to the readers. Before retiring he was in charge of the production and design of the 16 zoned Extra sections now produced by the Post each week.

While attending Georgia State University, where he majored in political science, he worked as part-time copyeditor for the editorial page of The Atlanta Constitution. After attending law school at Emory University for a year and a half he left Atlanta to work for The Detroit Free Press.

For the last 20 years Mason Mcallister editing photoMcAllister has taught "Editing and Layout" in the journalism program at The George Washington University. He is married to Marcia McAllister, a former journalist who is the communications manager for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. They have three grown children, who do not live at home, and three cats, who do live at home.

Home is in the Tysons Corner area of Fairfax County, Virginia .
