Why Host a Boston University Intern?
There are several reasons hosting a Boston University intern would be beneficial for your organization. With more than 30 years experience placing students, and with the backing of a major university, the Boston University Washington Internship Program makes the ideal partnership with your organization. We are a year round program based on the semester schedule. Our students are receiving academic credit for their internships, so it is our expectation that the internship will be unpaid.
Experience
Boston University is one of the oldest internship programs in Washington DC.We have placed thousands of interns, and we have worked with many thousands of internship providers. Through our experience, we have come to know students and we have a solid understanding of the qualities an internship provider seeks in an intern.
Local Supervision
Many universities send students to Washington DC to pursue internships. Boston University is one of only a handful of schools that has year round staff on-site in Washington. All of our staff live here as well as work here. That means we are available any time to answer your questions and to support our students. It also means that when the intern leaves your organization there are people looking out for them.
Part of Boston University
The Boston University Washington Internship Program is an office of Boston University. We report to the Associate Provost for Boston University as part of its Division of International Programs. We run study abroad programs in twenty different countries hosting more than 3,000 students around the world. Boston University is committed to quality off-campus education. We have the backing of one of the largest private universities in America.
Student Qualifications
Students participating in the Boston University Washington Internship Program have the opportunity to travel to the far corners of the world, yet they chose to come to the nation's capital. That translates into mature, directed, and well motivated students. Students must be juniors, seniors, or graduate students with at least a 3.0 grade point average and approval of their academic advisor. These are serious students.
Four or Five Day per Week Intern
In order to maximize the student's experience and exposure to the work environment, Boston University is committed to its students working for you a minimum of four full-time days each week during the fall and spring semesters and five days per week in the summer. This means they will be available more hours than interns from many other programs, and will more quickly become familiar with your organization and can become an integral part of the team.
Rigorous Academic Program
A semester in Washington DC is a significant commitment for a student participating in the Boston University Washington Internship Program. Not only are they working four full-time days each week, they are also taking a full semester's course load and participating in our speaker, theater, and field trip programs.
Interns are Potential Employees
What better way to find and screen potential employees than through a fourteen week (eight week in the summer) training program? Internship Providers have found this an invaluable tool for recruiting staff, and we are proud of the number of former students who return to work for their internship providers or who develop contacts and recommendations while they were students on the Boston University Washington Internship Program.
