Un Viatique pour l’Eternite: Hommage a Ousmane Sembene
(editions Papyrus Africain 2010)
On Thursday, January 27, WARC hosted a panel discussion on the recently published collection of essays on the late Senegalese filmmaker, Ousmane Sembene, best known as ‘the father of African Cinema.” The public forum was chaired by Professor Samba Gadjigo (Mount Holyoke College), co-editor with Professor Sada Niang of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, and Mr. Seydou Nourou Ndiaye, Director of the publishing house, Papyrus Africain.
The event was attended by some 50 people, almost all of whom had memories of Sembene to share: articles written by some on Sembene, journalists or university dons who had the honor and privilege to edit some of Sembene’s writings, and various anecdotes about ‘les petites choses de la vie” with the beloved filmmaker.
